Ogun State government has made a
commitment to partner Lafarge Africa plc in setting up a working
committee to develop solutions for waste management, while also
establishing a transparent and sustainable legacy on renewable energy.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by
representatives of
Lafarge to the governor’s office, Peter Hoddinott,
new group managing director/CEO, Lafarge Africa plc, expressed
willingness by the company to offer global expertise in developing
solutions for managing wastes in Ogun State, while pledging commitment
to being a good corporate citizen and to developing the circular
economy.
”Making Ogun State the first port of
call on my second official day in this new office is testament to our
commitment to the state,” Hoddinott said.
Also speaking during the visit, Pierre
Delcroix, head geocycle at LafargeHolcim, said the focus of the planned
scheme was to develop a consistent strategy to reclaim vegetation lost
to deforestation and reduce emissions of methane gas from refuse dumps,
which, according to him, were 28 times more deadly than CO2 emissions.
Ibikunle Amosun, governor, Ogun State,
while conducting the Lafarge Africa team around the dumpsites in the
state capital, said any partnership that would bring development and
improvement to the people was always a key point of interest to the
government.
He expressed his excitement at the
possibilities and the potential benefits from the intended partnership,
while promising to expeditiously put in place a dedicated team that will
work with Lafarge Africa to see the project come to fruition, with the
attendant transparency for which the state was known.
