Argentine ace Romero has started the
season as Louis van Gaal's first choice goalkeeper amid ongoing
uncertainty over De Gea's future.
Romero knows he has a big battle on
his hands to keep his place after the dramatic late collapse of the Spaniard's proposed move to
Real Madrid.
But the 28-year-old, who faced criticism for his display in the defeat to Swansea, believes
he has the full support of Van Gaal and his coaching staff and is
well up for the challenge.
He said: "It's important for a
goalkeeper to have this support because there is no rotation between
goalkeepers - a goalkeeper starts or he is benched.
"There are the only two choices
- there is not a third one.
"Let me tell you, I don't think
that the goalkeeper spot in United is already mine."
He added, in the interview
with La Nacional: "Playing for United is a dream and if God helps me
will never end.
"I have to thank (Louis) Van
Gaal for having confidence in me. Even though I didn't play in pre-season, I
started to play for the biggest club in the world .
"I do know that I have a huge
support from Van Gaal and his staff."
