Media mogul Rupert Murdoch tweeted America could use a “real” black person in the Oval Office, taking a swipe at President Obama while praising GOP contender Ben Carson.

Rupert Murdoch took a swipe at President Obama, praising Ben Carson.

Harry Shearer didn't take to kindly to the mogul's tweet.“Ben and Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide? And much else,” Murdoch, 84, tweeted.

There was virtually no gray area in the responses to the comment that went viral.

Star Jones reacted to Murdoch's tweet.
“The day I start allowing @rupertmurdoch to define what it is to be #black ...is the day I turn in my #blackcard,” Star Jones tweeted.
“Can you please regularly advise black Americans on which of them is “real”, so they’ll be free of doubt?” actor Harry Shearer wrote.
At least one person questioned Murdoch’s ability to reason.
“Are you the patient who got a sponge left in his head by Dr. Carson?” tweeted history in flux.

"Rupert Murdoch, brah, if ur concerned about bridging the racial divide, how 'bout pulling the plug on that new-fangled Klan rally, Fox News?" asked actor Jeffrey Wright.

The Australian-born tycoon responded to the backlash by encouraging his followers to read a New York magazine story about disappointment over Obama in minority communities.
“when you are busy tweeting, who is standing guard at the gates of hell?” David Voight responded.
The incendiary tweet from Murdoch came as Carson has been in the hot seat for his own controversial comments.
The Republican candidate made several questionable remarks since the Oregon mass shooting last week.
“I want to plant in people’s minds what to do in a situation like this because unfortunately this is probably not going to be the last time this happens,” Carson said on “CBS This Morning.”

Carson said Tuesday he would have fought back against the Roseburg, Ore., killer who gunned down nine people at a community college last
week.
“I would not just stand there and let him shoot me,” Carson said. “I would say: ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.’ ”

Murdoch meanwhile has been voicing his support for the former neurosurgeon frequently on social media.
On Tuesday he asked his followers to watch Carson's appearance on Fox News' "The Kelly File."
Murdoch owns Fox.
"Everywhere pundits keep underestimating Ben Carson. But public understand humility as admirable, listen
to the multi-faceted strong message," he wrote on Twitter Friday.
