Bell bottoms have flared up again.
Fashionistas are swapping the skinny jeans and matchstick pants of the
past few seasons for wide-leg trousers inspired by the ones their
parents boogied down with in the 1970s - but with a modern flair.
Beyonce looked flawless with husband Jay Z in the Meatpacking District
on Saturday while sporting edgy Alice + Olivia Leather Bell Pants with a
long coat and crisp white button-down shirt.
“Bells are more flattering and elongating than skinny styles, and they
truly give women the ultimate super model leg shape,” explains Alice +
Olivia designer Stacy Bendet.
She describes the modern bell bottom as, “very fitted and sexy ... with
a wide hem and a really snug shape through the butt and upper thigh and
leg until the knee, where the flare starts.”
Queen Bey is not the only star digging the updated groovy silhouette.
Gisele Bundchen was spotted in Midtown on Friday wearing looser flared
dark jeans with stacked heels and a printed, tucked-in kaftan.
Selena Gomez showed her own savoir-flare by hopping off a plane in
Paris recently wearing a pair of $395 CO jeans paired with chunky shoes
and a fitted Rodarte hoodie.
And Kylie Jenner sat front row at Prabal Gurung’s New York Fashion Week
show in September donning a pair of the designer’s paint-splattered
flared trousers with a matching blazer.
Fashion insiders say this is all part of the ’70s trend from the
catwalks at Tommy Hilfiger, Karen Walker and Jessica Simpson’s
collection, as well as the Coachella and Bonnaroo music festivals.
Jennifer Lopez even rocked the full retro look while shooting her “El
Mismo Sol” music video with Alvaro Soler in August. She paired her
flares with a beaded and fringed jacket, round sunglasses and platform
shoes.
