Rap star Missy Elliott and her team of managers are being sued for
$75,000 for failing to show up for two small concerts and a television
appearance while appearing at a big music fest in Rio de Janeiro three
years ago.
Concert promoter Jean Faustian says in papers filed in Manhattan
Supreme Court that she gave Elliott's staff the deposit toward those
three appearances, but the “Work It” rapper, whose real name is Melissa
Arnett, never showed and Faustian wants her money back.
Faustian's lawyer, Carlos Carvajal, said his client made the deal,
promising to pay the singer a total of $150,000 to perform in Rio and
Porto Alegre and to appear on Brazil's big morning TV show, because she
knew she was already in the country in November 2012 for a big music
fest in Rio.
"We love Missy but her staff .... we don't know what happened," Carvajal said.
The singer's spokesman issued a statement Tuesday night saying: "Supa
Dupa Fly Productions, Inc. and Missy Elliott vehemently deny any and all
of Mr. Faustin’s claims ... Mr. Faustin has not submitted any agreement
of any kind ... signed by" the singer or her representatives.
"At no point did Supa Dupa Fly Productions or Missy Elliot act in bad faith."
