Interview: Miss. Nigeria International 2015 - Queen Mercy Atang

21 year old Queen Mercy Atang is the current Miss Nigeria International 2015 and in an interview with Chief Editor,  Endurance Robert  of  Bokissonthrone News, the beauty queen answers basic questions about her background, challenges, attention from men, dream for Akwa-ibom State and much more.

My name is Queen Mercy Atang I am 21 years old. I am the current Miss Nigeria International Supermodel 2015. I hail from Akwa-Ibom State. I am the first girl and Second child of my parents.

ACADEMY LIFE  ?

I had my secondary education in Port Harcourt, and got through diploma, I gained direct admission into University of  Nnamadi Azikiwe, where I applied to study business Administrative.

SUPPORT FROM PARENTS ?

I had the support of my parents. They were aware of the auditions, so I was got all their prays,  that scale me through to make it to the final.

DEFINE BEAUTY ?

Beauty is a combination of qualities, shapes, colour and forms that pleases the eyes. 

WINNING THE CROWN ?

This is my second attempt at a beauty pageant. I had always wanted to participate in an international pageant but I never got encouraged until my family advised me to buy the form. I went for auditions and saw so many beautiful girls. But I remain focus and achieved  to make it to the grand finale. I won due to God’s grace and not because I was the prettiest, tallest or had the loudest applause neither was it because I am from Akwa-ibom state. My victory was purely on merit.

I remain my old self I am still Queen Mercy Atang; it is just that I am wearing a crown. Adjusting to my new status has not been easy because a lot of things are new to me. For instance, I got more calls from well wishers, my Facebook page has been bombarded by requests but in all, I am grateful to God. Sometimes, I felt I have been robbed of my privacy but I know every queen before me most have experienced same and I hope to handle it without losing directions.

PET PROJECT ?

Being a queen is a service to the public and society in  assignment full of challenges and not a ticket to join the world of glamour. The crown has given me a platform to actualise my dreams which is helping humanity and the best part it I will be doing it on a larger scale. My area of focus will be (“Transformation of Youth” by Empowering then to Acquire Training in their different career).

ROLE MODELS ?

As aspiring model, I admire Queen Agbani Darego of (MBGN 2001)  for her strength, courage and resilience. Apart from her, I also have God and my mother as role models that inspire me.

DREAM FOR AKWA-IBOM STATE ?

As a Queen, I will use my Pet Project to empower the youth in all opportunity states I visit, especial my state of origin,  I will use the NISM platform to awaken people to the empowerment potential in the state such that it will generate revenue and also create employment opportunities. By the end of my reign, I want Akwa-ibom state to become the United state of Nigeria! lol.

MALE ATTENTION ?

The men have been there even before I went for the pageant, so it is not a new thing to me. I just try to stay focused on other things without getting distracted by the attention I receive from the opposite sex as they all want to be a friend.  I come from a family where my parents don’t spare the rod and are religious. I have made my position open to my family to give me their support and extra time prior to Nigeria International SuperModel, because my designation sometimes demand that I am out a little bit later than my curfew. Except for that, since I became queen, my parents have refused to treat me differently. As the first child and daughter I still do house chores and I am sure they will still scold me if the need arises.

FASHION ?

I like to look Poise  and glamorous. I don’t like wearing high-heel shoes, cause it was never part of me, but I don’t have a choice now. When shopping for shoes, I go for comfortable heels which I can wear for hours without feeling pains.

BEAUTY ROUTINE?

I drink a lot of water, get enough rest by sleeping and I never sleep with make-up on because of my free need to breath. I also eat plenty of fresh vegetables, asap Akwa-ibomite, my culture is all vegetarians and fruits. Staying fitted is not a struggle and I eat moderately. But I still visit the gym to keep fit not necessarily to lose weight. My statistics is 32-28-39 and I am 5 ft 5.

HOW DO FEEL ABOUT YOU HEIGHT ?

I have always being myself often without any intimidations.

FOCUS FOR THE BRAND ???

Making the brand known to the society and seeing that it grows to another levels.

WHAT GET YOU ANGRY?

When people talk too much (Bragging) or when someone fake their identity or lies
