The rand was steady at weaker levels at midday on Monday as the dollar was slightly firmer against the euro.
The local currency hit a record low of R14.4286 to the dollar on Friday as markets turned risk-averse following the terrorist attacks in Paris.
At 11.30am the rand was at R14.3839 to the dollar from a previous close of R14.4017. The local currency was trading in a range of R14.33-R14.41 to the dollar.
The rand was at R15.4267 against the euro from R15.4728 and at R21.8805 against the pound from R21.9411.
The euro was at $1.0721 from a previous close of $1.0741.
Nedbank Capital said in a note that the dollar would remain relatively well supported as a result of some safe-haven buying of the US currency.
