Roberto Martinez hails hat-trick hero Arouna Kone

‘He’s an example to any young player facing adversity,’

The ex-Wigan star had struggled with injuries and poor performances until the current campaign but has been one of the Toffees’ key stars so far.

A treble in Everton’s 6-2 victory over Sunderland was further proof the player is beginning to hit peak form.

And, as his start triggered a new contract, Martinez took time to applaud Kone’s attitude to battle back in adverse circumstances.
"It has been as difficult as you can get [for Arouna Kone]. It was a career-threatening injury," said Martinez.

"His attitude, his focus, never changed and he never chose to blame anyone and anything.

"Against Watford, in difficult circumstances, it was a real turning point and from that point on he has been very impressive.
"Today was the most complete 90 minutes he has had and it was a phenomenal 90 minutes because it triggers an extension to his contract.
"He is a sensational example to any young footballer facing adversity."
