It's going to get hairy this month as men - and women - participate in "No Shave November," also known as "Movember."
"Movember" - created using the Australian word "mo," meaning moustache -
is a movement created to raise awareness for prostate and testicular
cancer, asking participants to donate the money they would spend on
grooming to the American Cancer Society.
No Shave November started on Facebook in 2009 and has raised over $2 million in the past six years.
Here’s a list of ways you can make the most out of No Shave November:
The World Beard and Moustache Championship is hosted by the World Beard
and Moustache Association where men from all over the world show off
their stylish facial hair.
The competition happens every two years and is broken down into three categories: moustache, partial beard and full beard.
This year, the competition will be held in Austria and will return to the United States in 2017.
Members that join the Movember Foundation instantly become a "Mo Bro" - if you are a guy - and a "Mo Sista" - if female.
The foundation is a global charity created for men to live happier and
healthier lifestyles focusing on prostate and testicular cancer, poor
mental health and physical inactivity.
Encourage women to participate in No Shave November
The month long celebration is mainly focused on men achieving the
facial hair goals but women are not excluded from participating -
although it is frowned upon.
Women are taking a stand and participating in No Shave November by
putting the razor down and not shaving their legs and even going through
the entire month with not getting eyebrow or bikini waxes - which
health professionals say can cause infections like Bockhart's impetigo -
a dangerous staph infection or pseudofolliculitis barbae - which causes
curl hairs to grow deep in the skin.
Drink a "Beard" Beer
Lots of brewers and the stereotypical beer drinkers proudly display
their beards all year long but there are a few beer brands that take
their love for beards to another level.
Brands like Rogue Ales Beard Beer in Newport, Ore. and Holy City Brewing
Chucktown Follicle Brown in Charleston, S.C. pride themselves on
raising hairs with one sip of their beers - having logos that would make
any No Shave November participant proud.
