Oprah Winfrey has a powerful message for women struggling to lose weight.
The iconic media mogul stresses there's no time like the present to
begin working towards the body one desires in a new commercial for Weight Watchers — her first with the company since she became a spokesperson two months ago.
“Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be,”
Winfrey says in the one-minute clip. “Many times you look in the mirror
and you don't even recognize your own self because you got
lost-buried-in the weight that you carry.”
Winfrey then opens up about her own battles with weight issues in the
commercial, which features throwback clips of the TV titan exercising on
a treadmill and jogging in the street.
“Nothing you've ever been through is wasted, so every time I tried and
failed, every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has
brought me to this most powerful moment to say, ‘If not now, when?’” she
asks.
“I feel that way, and I know millions of other people feel that way,”
she concludes the empowering advertisement. “Are you ready? Let's do
this together.”
The United Kingdom version of Winfrey's commercial, which is titled “Why I Joined Weight Watchers,” premiered on YouTube late last week. It is expected to debut in America in the near future, according to E! News.
Winfrey, whose past battles with weight issues are well-documented, began using Weight Watchers in August and had already lost 15 pounds as of late October.
The 61-year-old former talk show host purchased a 10% stake in Weight Watchers in October for $43.2 million, saying that she was moved by the company's ability to transform lives.
“I believe in the program so much I decided to invest in the company and partner in its evolution,” she said in a statement.
As she gets thinner, however, her wallet is getting fatter. Her stake
has only skyrocketed in value since she purchased it, with E! News
reporting her shares were worth upwards of $145 million as of last
month.
Winfrey is the latest celebrity to sign on as a spokesperson for the
weight-loss giant, joining Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Hudson and Jenny
McCarthy, among others.
