Women run the world ... of running.
Seven of Spotify’s 10 most-streamed songs
from users’ playlists with “run” or “running” in the title last year
were by female artists, with Beyonce and Sia leading the pack.
Queen Bey’s aptly-titled “Run the World (Girls)” sprinted into first place, while her Solo cup single “7/11” came in fifth.
Sia’s “Chandelier” was the second-place finisher, while Kelly
Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song,” Missy Elliott’s “Work It,” Rihanna’s “Bitch
Better Have My Money” and TLC’s “No Scrubs” also pushed runners to go
the extra mile on the girl-powered playlist.
The three men who managed to cracked the almost entirely female line-up
include Mark Ronson, whose “Uptown Funk” was in third place, along with
Wiz Khalifa and Calvin Harris.
Many striders sung the praises of a workout playlist in a separate
Spotify poll of U.S. and U.K. runners. Some 60% swear that music helps
them pick up the pace. And 88% said tunes were “important” or “vital” to
their run.
The survey is a bit unscientific because it would not include users who
call their running list such things as “Sole Train” or “Marathon of
Death.”
