San Diego twins born in different years between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

These twins were born minutes and a year apart.

Maribel Valencia gave birth to Jaelyn, a girl, at 11:59 p.m. New Year’s Eve and Luis, a boy, at 12:02 a.m. on New Year’s Day at the San Diego Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center, hospital officials said.

Jaelyn weighed four pounds and 15 ounces and Luis weighed five pounds and nine ounces. Both infants and their mother are healthy even though they weren’t expected until late January, according to the hospital.

Valencia, 22, works as a cashier at San Diego International Airport and her husband Luis Valencia serves as a Navy diesel mechanic, KNSD-TV reported. The Valencias also have a 3-year-old daughter named Isabella.

 

“They were getting ready to go away for the weekend,” hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Dailard told the Daily News. “They thought they’d have to do a C-section. She really wanted a natural delivery and her doctor made that happen.”

It appears little Jaelyn and Luis were, respectively, the last baby born in 2015 and the first baby born in 2016 in San Diego. Two New York City tykes tied for the first baby born in the city in 2016 when they were both born at the stroke of midnight Friday morning.
