Dole Fresh Vegetables announced a recall of its packaged salads Friday after a listeria outbreak from one its facilities spread to six states, killing one person and infecting 11 others.
The food company said on its Facebook page it was starting a “voluntary
withdrawal” of some of its salads. Any salad pack with the letter “A”
in its upper right-hand corner will be taken off the shelves and should
be thrown out by customers immediately, the company said. None of its
other products will be withdrawn.
The company said it suspended operations in its Springfield, Ohio facility after tests indicated the listeria outbreak came from there.
The bacterial infection from the products spread between July and early January, and sickened people in Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, according to the Centers for Disease Controls.
All of the victims were hospitalized, and one in Michigan died from the
infection, the CDC said. The victims ranged in age from 3 to 83, and
included a pregnant woman.
