Following in the footsteps of its fashion line, H&M this week
stepped further in the eco-friendly world by introducing the first “Conscious” beauty collection.
The “Conscious” collections promise affordable fashion choices, but
with production causing as little harm as possible to the ecosystem.
Previous product lines focused on using organic and recycled fabrics.
The new beauty venture under the “Conscious” label means that each
product is created under specific guidelines banning genetic modified
organisms and synthetic perfumes and dyes, among other controversial
ingredients. H&M uses certified organic ingredients and added
essential oils for aromatherapy-inspired light scents.
“We already offer Conscious choices with our fashion collections, so it is natural for us to have the same offering within our beauty collection,”
says Sara Wallander, concept designer at H&M Beauty. “We always aim
to develop our products to high and responsible standards in both
materials and production. With the Conscious range, we have taken this
philosophy even further.”
Available in recyclable packaging with a modern design, the collection
includes tinted lip balm, face masks, aluminum-free deodorant and a body
care selection for both men and women.
Last year, the U.S. beauty industry reportedly generated a total revenue of $56.2 billion. Increasingly there’s rising interest towards eco -friendly products, with consumers paying closer attention to what they use on their skin.
The collection is available for $7- $13 in select stores and also, come March, on hm.com.
