“she hasn’t talked to her dad in 10 years, ‘I don’t think he ever really wanted to be a parent’
Hollywood's "It" girl Brie Larson has opened up about her daddy issues.
The Oscar-nominated actress revealed in the March issue of Elle that
she hasn't talked to her father in 10 years — some time after her
parents split.
The 26-year-old "Room" starlet drifted away from her dad when "legally"
she didn't have to visit with him anymore, stating that she tried to
"understand him" but didn't think he "ever really wanted to be a
parent."
As her acting career took off, the estrangement led her to seek out "volatile" roles as a coping mechanism.
"All of the stuff I wasn't dealing with in my actual life — all of this
anger, my fears and my vulnerabilities — I didn't feel comfortable
expressing because I felt like it was part of the human code that when
we're out in the public space."
Larson is up for a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of a woman held captive for almost a decade in "Room."
She's also starred in the indie film "Short Term 12" and Showtime's "United States of Tara."
With the Oscar buzz booming, Larson still finds herself starstruck, especially around her fellow nominees.
"It was crazy. It was pretty much like, Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett,
Saoirse Ronan, and me," she told Elle after a press event in November.
"Then Jennifer Lawrence came in for a little bit, and Kate Winslet,
Carey Mulligan ... I felt like I was hallucinating."
