A 46-year-old religious instructor at a Queens mosque has been arrested on charges of molesting a 9-year-old student, the Daily News has learned.
Mohammad Rana of Queens was charged with
sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child for groping the girl
at the Masjid Abu Huraira Mosque on 31st Ave., police sources said.
“You are a good girl,” he would allegedly say as he grabbed the girl’s
breasts and buttocks. The incidents sometimes took place as he taught
class in front of other children, according to court records.
The girl reported the abuse after watching a “good touch/bad touch”
puppet show during a workshop at her public school on Tuesday, sources
said.
The girl recounted what happened to a workshop instructor, said Queens
District Attorney Richard Brown. He said Rana used his position “ to
prey on a young student.”
Cops said the girl attended Rana’s class four days a week at the
center. The gropings began in September 2015 and continued through Feb.
3, authorities said.
The girl told police that she had first told her mother about the
abuse, but her mother didn’t want to involve the police until she spoke
to her imam first.
Calls to the mosque for comment were not returned Wednesday.
