This how-to ended up as a “what not to do.”
After seeing another woman post a successful Snapchat video of herself applying self-tanner with a paint roller, Imogen Silversides attempted the same technique, but received a very different result.
“Who ever the girl was that recommend to apply fake tan with a paint roller is one lying f--k. Don't think I'll be at work Friday,” Silversides posted to Facebook on Feb. 9.
The comment accompanied a photo of Silversides looking a dark shade of brown and holding a paint roller and tray.
According to her, she looked “the color of a dining table.”
Her post received nearly 40,000 likes and 23,000 comments.
One user commented, “who would even try that!”
“What confuses me is why she carries on after the first roll,” Bethany Charles wrote.
The original self-tan painter, Amy Ridler, posted on Facebook that “everyone thought it was a great idea.”
“Okay so you don't get it on your hands, can wash it,perfect even tan, NO
STREAKS can get it mega dark if you like oh and you can reach your
back,” she wrote.
Her post received 21,000 likes and almost 2,000 shares.
She later posted the image of Silversides failed attempt with the caption “IM DIEING (sic) OMG HOW NOT TO APPLY TAN.”
Ridler said she was also sent 30 bottles of tanning lotion after her Snapchat how-to.
By Sunday night, Silversides was back to her normal skin tone and many Facebook users wondered if it was all a joke.
