The 2016 New York Auto Show is in full swing, with cars and concepts of
all shapes and sizes sharing space here at the Javits Center. We're far
from done covering all the action here in the Big Apple, but we wanted
to take a break and round up the most notable debuts from the first
media preview day.
So put on your seatbelts, ladies and gentlemen, we're going for a high speed tour of Day One at the New York Auto Show.
Lincoln Navigator Concept
Lincoln is putting the show back into show-car with the Navigator
Concept. Big, bold, and fitted with a pair of massive gullwing doors;
there's no doubt about it, this Lincoln cannot be ignored. Pop those
doors open and get ready, because that's when the fun begins. Stairs
cascade to the ground as the door swings skyward, revealing an interior
that is equal parts 1960s-retro and cutting-edge contemporary. Lincoln
is getting back on track after years in the wilderness. Daring concepts
like this one prove the brand is serious about its comeback.
Mazda MX-5 Miata RF
Finally, a folding retractable hardtop that doesn't need to make
excuses. This Miata hardtop looks great with its roof up, or down. With
the push of button the top splits in half and swallows the middle roof
segment. The end result is surprisingly targa-like and looks great from
most angles - though seen directly from the rear, the black center bar
is a little too chunky for the lithe Miata. Power comes from the same
155-horsepower 4-cylinder fitted in the standard roadster and you have a
choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Toyota Prius Prime
Take a Prius, add some of the hydrogen-powered Mirai's wacky styling,
and toss in a plug for extra EV range: the result is the 2017 Toyota
Prius Prime. At a glance, this fuel-sipping hybrid looks like a Prius
with a few more curves and larger air intakes. But it's what's
underneath the futuristic exterior that really counts. With a 22 mile
electric driving range, the Prius Prime can satisfy the daily needs of
many drivers without ever setting wheels in a gas station.
Nissan GT-R
More power is probably the last thing the GT-R needs, but that didn't
stop Nissan from adding it to the 2017 GT-R. We aren't going to
complain, because the GT-R is a performance machine with few equals. A
twin-turbo V-6, all-wheel-drive, and aerodynamics that have been honed
to perfection; the latest GT-R doesn't look dramatically different,
though we assure you Nissan has left almost no stone unturned when it
came time to making a fast thing, well, that much faster!
Maserati Levante
Maserati is in the business of building SUVs, though fans of the
Italian automaker needn't worry that some behemoth is going to roll into
dealerships. All things considered, the Levante is elegantly
proportioned and stays true to the brand's 'grand touring' heritage of
sports and luxury automobiles. Yes, you can haul more luggage and
venture further off-road than you would in a Quattroporte. But no, this
doesn't look like a brick with a Maserati trident badge on its nose.
Whew!
I Like and prefer Lincoln Navigator Concept, which do you like most????
