Erin Andrews’ civil trial against the Tennessee hotel where a peeping
pervert secretly filmed her naked in her room was briefly halted
Wednesday when a defense witness admitted he’d watched the nude footage
online.
Neal Peskind, who works for the corporation that owns the Marriott at
Vanderbilt in Nashville where the 2008 incident occurred, said he was at
a restaurant Tuesday night when friends started watching the film of
Andrews, according to NBC News.
He claimed he asked them to stop but said “it was not as quickly as I had hoped,” the network said.
But a waitress at the restaurant — whose tweet about the incident
helped alert officials — said Peskind and his friends made fun of
Andrews’ body as they goggled at the illicit footage of her emerging
from a shower.
Peskind had testified on behalf of the hotel Monday, a day before the
former ESPN sports host took the stand to tearfully testify about how
the leaked online video nearly destroyed her.
Andrews suffered “mild” posttraumatic stress disorder when she learned
Michael Barrett had removed part of her hotel door peephole to film her,
an expert said Wednesday. Kim Brown, a professor of psychiatry at the
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, said Andrews had coped
admirably with the trauma of having footage of her posted online.
“She’s not experiencing significant impairment ... but she is experiencing distress,” Brown said.
“She’s a very resilient individual.”
Andrews, now a Fox Sports host, has sued the owner and manager of the Nashville Marriott for $75 million.
