Donald Trump is apparently thin-skinned when it comes to skin-baring photos of his former model wife.
The hate-spewing huckster,
furious over an ad featuring a photo of his scantily clad wife, took
aim at his rival’s own spouse in a vicious tweet Tuesday night.
“Lyin’ Ted Cruz
just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad,” Trump
tweeted. “Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your
wife!”
The angry post apparently referenced an online ad put out earlier
Tuesday by a conservative anti-Trump PAC featuring a provocative photo
of the mogul’s wife Melania.
The ad, released by “Make America Awesome,” an independent group opposing Trump’s candidacy, shows a photo of Melia Trump, nearly nude from a 2000 GQ photo spread.
“Meet Melania Trump, your next First Lady,” reads text on the ad. “Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”
The group has no apparent ties to the Cruz campaign.
Ted Cruz hit back at Trump in his own tweet, labeling Trump a “coward.”
“Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi,
you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless,” he posted.
A message left for the Cruz campaign wasn’t immediately returned.
The nature behind — or intent suggested in — Trump’s threat wasn’t clear.
Cruz’s wife Heidi has played a largely backseat role in her husband’s campaign, with a few noteworthy exceptions.
In January, The New York Times reported that Ted Cruz failed to
disclose a $1.2 million loan — which he only obtained after he and his
wife liquidated their assets — to his 2012 Senate campaign.

Part of the loan was from Goldman Sachs, where Heidi Cruz worked before taking leave help her husband’s campaign.
In addition, various media outlets have reported that Austin, Tex.,
police officers, during a bizarre 2005 incident detailed in a heavily
redacted police report, once found a confused Heidi Cruz on the side of a
highway and declared her a “danger to herself.”
Heidi Cruz has not spoken publicly of the incident, although her
husband once said when asked about it, that his wife had a “brief bout
of depression” at that time.
Liz Mair, the co-founder of “Make America Awesome” tweeted later
Tuesday that the Trump campaign had been “pushing around rumors” about
Heidi Cruz’s mental health “for weeks.”
“Donald Trump is so desperate to beat Cruz that his team has been
pushing around rumors she’s a criminal w a mental illness for weeks,
now,” Mair tweeted.
