Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech
will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a calf injury, manager Arsene Wenger has revealed.
The veteran shot-stopper suffered the problem in the
closing stages of the midweek defeat to Swansea.
He will now miss a crucial run of games, including
Saturday's north London derby clash at Tottenham, the FA
Cup fifth round replay with Hull and the last-16 Champions League tie at Barcelona.
Cech's absence is a huge blow for Arsenal as they bid to get
their title bid back on track against Spurs.
Wenger's side go into this weekend's White Hart Lane
meeting on the back of two straight defeats in the Premier League,
which has left them six points adrift of leaders Leicester.
"[Cech will be out for] three to four weeks. It's a
serious calf injury," said the Frenchman.
"He had a groin alert on the first Swansea goal and
maybe compensated a bit too much and provoked another muscular injury."
The Gunners will also be missing Laurent Koscielny against Tottenham with a
calf injury, but the defender should be back for the visit of West Brom a week
on Saturday.
Wenger added: "It is what we call a grade one tear. I
don't think he will be available for Tuesday but should be OK for next
Saturday."
