Ankara
prints have flourished over the past couple of years, rather than an
aso ebi only affair women have begun to incorporate it into their every
day wear from what to wear to work, to a casual affair. The modern day
African designer have fused the Ankara into their designs to represent
culture and contemporary styles, this gesture is what caused the influx
of Ankara as an everyday staple.
Ankara styles anyone can pull off:
Ankara
has become a way to set the trend ( Remember Rihanna’s Print dress to
the White House), a way to show that we are in love with this versatile
fabric even though it was originally meant for the Indonesian market, a
way to show that the subsequent designs after the failure in the
Indonesian market resonate with the African culture and traditions, a
way to beat non-African designers at their game and a way to show that
we are Africans and Proud.
The Ankara
fabric is a statement and it has become loud and clear now that we have
it as our daily staple there is no limit to the designs we can create.
Although there are a lot of people stuck in the past, and they clearly
haven’t gotten the memo that says “Ankara has taken over the world”,
well not to worry if you don’t have a contemporary Ankara style
somewhere in your closet then you need to check out this basic modern
Ankara looks you can pull off.
