The transgender super star will take part in the women's Pro-Am golf
ANA Inspiration tournament, according to sources close to the Mission
Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
“Caitlyn has vowed she will attend and wants to represent ladies at the
event,” according to sources close to the event. Jenner's rep has
confirmed that she will attend Wednesday's tournament action.
While Caitlyn is somewhat new to women's golf, that doesn't make her an
amateur. Prior to transitioning into a woman, Jenner had been an avid
golfer for the past 15 years.
“She has a strong handicap and is obviously a natural born competitor,”
we're told. “This event is a perfect way to make her announcement to
the world that she is on the golf course as a woman and wants to be
treated that way.”
She will certainly be the first female golfer to have won the men's
Olympic decathlon in 1976. Don't be surprised if Jenner drives a golf
ball further than your average newbie on the women's circuit. But
winning this week's matches is no guarantee for the 6'2, 66-year old
world class athlete.
In September, Jenner and 22-year-old pro Danielle King got together at
Sherwood Country Club, where Jenner is a member and King got the best of
a mini-skills challenge between the two. Jenner confessed at the time
that losing that showdown “ticked” her off. We're told that Jenner
boasts a formidable 5.3 handicap at Sherwood.
Earlier this month, Jenner attended the re-opening of the Sherwood
Country Club, which itself just underwent a very pricey $10.5 million
transformation. She had no problem being barred from a men's tournament
there because of the fact she's now a woman.
“I think it's cute that they said I couldn't play because it's an
all-men's tournament,” she reportedly said at the time. “I'll go with
that!”
We're also told that Jenner will be paired with soccer star Abby
Wambach, though tournament reps didn't repond to a request for comment.
