First Response conceives Bluetooth-enabled pregnancy test

Waiting to find out if you’re pregnant is hard, but a new Bluetooth-enabled test promises to make that pregnant pause easier to bear.

The First Response Pregnancy PRO Digital Pregnancy Test + App Access, which bills itself as the “first and only” Bluetooth-enabled pregnancy test, hit shelves this week promising to sync the plastic stick you’re peeing on with your smartphone.

The digital test and app were conceived to take the stress out of that interminable three-minute wait that women suffer through to learn whether they are going to be mothers or not.

So rather than pacing back and forth in the bathroom, potential moms-to-be can distract themselves by opening the First Response app and watching videos of adorable animals and calming ocean waves, or viewing clips of relaxing breathing techniques.
You know - the things they were already doing on their smartphones with YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

It’s unclear exactly what this digital pregnancy test and app adds to the experience beyond directing users to the company’s products, such as gummy prenatal vitamins if the test is positive, and conception-friendly lube if it’s not and you’re ready to try again.
The First Response smart test does curate pregnancy and fertility information into one place, which can be useful, such as a due-date tracker and information about pregnancy milestones and nutrition if you’re expecting, and helpful tips about your fertility cycle and questions to ask your doctor if you’re not.

Bluetooth technology has already created connected home appliances, headphones and cars, so it was only a matter of time before women’s fertility cycles also went wireless.
But the smart pregnancy test has been met with mixed reactions on social media so far.
“R you a millennial woman who has missed a period and is incapable of doing anything without involving a smartphone?” tweeted Erik Stenger.

“Who is responsible for this atrocity?” chimed in tweeter @snarkyspice.
The First Response Pro Digital Pregnancy Test is available at major retailers for between $14.99-$21.99, and the First Response app is free for Android and iPhone devices.
