An ad for
Gucci featuring very thin models has been banned in England.
The ad, which begins with models dancing in a
villa in Florence, was flagged by the UK's Advertising Standards Authority
after they received a complaint for using a model that was "unhealthily
thin and gaunt."
After careful review, the authority agreed
with the complainant and ordered the ad be pulled.
The ad for
Gucci's "The Cruise 2016" campaign was featured in The Times of
London in December 2015.
The Italian fashion brand defended the spot,
contending that the model in question was just "toned and slim." The
designer added that the tone of the ad falls in line with The Times' older,
sophisticated readership profile.
"Nowhere in the ads were any models'
'bones' visible, their makeup was natural rather than heavy... and their
clothes were not revealing," the fashion house argued.
