MC Hammer hosts lip sync pop-up at Grand Central Terminal

Veteran hip hop artist MC Hammer stopped by Vanderbilt Hall to break it down and lip sync with fans as part of a partnership with Command Brand. The event promoted the company's damage-free hooks for hanging on your walls—no hammer required. Commuters who didn't mind the unanticipated delay dressed up in on-site costumes, dancing and lip syncing in front of rolling cameras alongside the artist.

"This is stepping out of my comfort zone," said Portia Jones, a 28-year-old waiting in line. "I'm looking forward to going up and making a total fool out of myself in front of strangers!"

Hammer, dressed in a black suit and donning his signature gold chains, was calm and cool as fans flocked to the bright lights to boogie down to his top hit, "U Can't Touch This."

"I'm enjoying the energy from the fans," Hammer told the Daily News. And the fans felt the same way about Hammer.

"It was a lot of fun!" said Helen Rogers, 56, who was visiting from Melbourne, Australia. Rogers said she just stumbled upon the event — a sentiment echoed by other participants.

"We were just passing by," said Honza Berger, 39. Berger is visiting New York from Germany, and said he's been a fan of Hammer since he was a teenager, still behind the wall in Berlin.

"[We’d] listen to the radio in the American sector," Berger recalled. Berger's companion, Rizi Lydia, couldn't believe Hammer was willing to dance with fans for so many hours.

"He is really exceptional," Lydia noted.

But if you didn't get a chance to break it down today, you're in luck. Hammer said fans can expect brand new music coming soon—but wouldn’t divulge exactly what.
