It’s the end of the Lin.
“Hamilton” creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda took his final bow at the Broadway blockbuster on Saturday.
Miranda, whose entrance in the first act was met with a one-minute
standing ovation from a packed house at the Richard Rodgers Theatre,
kept his goodbye low-key.
He didn’t make a speech and cast member Christopher Jackson had to push
Miranda forward to bow again — and again — before an audience that
included Jane Fonda, Rosie O’Donnell, Jennifer Lopez and Spike Lee.
The curtain call was broadcast on Facebook Live and watched by more than
27,000 people unable to see Miranda’s final show in person.
Cast members flocked to the Renaissance hotel in Times Square for an
after party and soon after, Miranda tweeted a photo of his long lock
sheared after growing his hair out for the part of Alexander Hamilton.
Miranda, 36, who also created the Tony-winning “In the Heights,” has
filled his trophy case with “Hamilton” honors. They include a Pulitzer,
two Tonys (for score and book), a Grammy and a MacArthur genius grant.
He’s vowed to the return to the hip hop-infused musical about the founding father in time.
Until then, his schedule is packed. He’s written songs for Disney’s
animated movie “Moana,” out Nov. 23, and will co-star in a “Mary
Poppins” movie opposite Emily Blunt next year.
A “Hamilton” documentary featuring Miranda airs Oct. 21 on PBS.
