Let
the games begin! The official start of the 2016 Rio Olympics kicked off with
the opening ceremony, as athletes and fans from across the world gathered at
Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
It was the sexiest opening ceremony in Olympics history.
Gisele Bündchen made her catwalk comeback Friday night, as the Brazilian supermodel returned to her home country and helped kick off the Rio Olympics.
The 36-year-old turned Maracanã Stadium into a runway and stunned in a
long-sleeve gold-sequined gown designed by Brazilian designer Alexandre
Herchcovitch. The sexy floor-length dress flaunted her model legs as a
thigh-high slit ran down the middle of her body.
Brazil's classic track, "The Girl from Ipanema," played as the blonde
beauty became the star of the night, earning wild cheers from the crowd.
It was the longest walk the modeling superstar, who retired last year,
has made in her 21-year-long career — and likely her biggest, with a
worldwide audience tuning in for the moment. It may have been the final
strut for Bündchen, who bowed her head down and blew a kiss to the
audience as she finished her lengthy walk.
Earlier in the day, the blonde stunner confessed she was nervous to return to the runway.
"This is for sure the longest runway I have ever walked in my life and
by far with the most amount of people watching, so it is a little
nerve-wracking I must say," she revealed to People magazine.
Still, the Horizontina, Brazil native was "humbled" to take part in "a very special moment for my country."
Former Brazilian athlete Vanderlei Cordeiro lights the Olympic cauldron
with the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016
Olympic Games.
Mrs. Brady also took to Instagram to commemorate the grand occasion and praise the "unity" of the event.
"I truly believe that each Olympian lights the path for the next young
child dreaming of being at the Olympics and encourages the practice of
sports," she wrote.
"I believe that the unity is the key to creating a world filled with kindness, gratitude, peace, and love," she concluded.
Earlier this week, a bizarre sketch involving Bündchen and an alleged black boy mugging her was allegedly reworked after it was met with severe backlash.
The ceremony's creative director blamed it on a "tremendous misunderstanding."
Bündchen defended the Rio de Janeiro Games from controversy stemming from concerns about the Zika virus.
"I believe that there are different ways to look at things; I always
chose to focus on the positive because I believe that so much of what we
create comes from what we believe," she told People magazine.
