Sports Illustrated cover girl Chrissy Teigen was quick to point out
that last night's Miss Teen USA pageant wasn't exactly a model of
diversity.
The 30-year-old called out the beauty pageant after the organization
tweeted a photo of its five finalists — each of whom is white, blonde
and blue-eyed.
"Wow how can we choose from such a diverse bunch," Teigen sarcastically wrote on Twitter
, earning more than 38,000 retweets.
Less than an hour later, however, the "Lip Sync Battle" host had a
somewhat different tune as she defended the individual girls competing
for the Miss Teen USA crown.
"It's fiiiiiine. Not their fault. I'm sure they are delightful women," she wrote. "Just funny. I'm not gonna write a think-piece on a damn pageant."
Teigen was far from the only person to comment on five girls'
similarities. A wave of Twitter users also flocked to the social media
site to react after the finalists were selected on Saturday evening.
"Wow this girl from 5 different states," a user named Terron Moore wrote
Another named Carlos Polanco added: "They all look the same."
Karlie Hay, the contestant from Texas, went on to win the pageant, with Miss North Carolina Emily Wakeman finishing second.
Marley Stokes (South Carolina), Erin Snow (Alabama) and Carissa Morrow (Nevada) rounded out the top five.
A spokesperson for Miss Teen USA did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
