The Surprising Thing Many Women Are Using to Improve Their Sex Lives

You’ve probably heard some people brag that pot makes sex feel amazing, and you’ve probably also written them off as total stoners who have zero clue what they’re talking about. But new data suggests they're on to something.

A new survey from HelloMD, a California-based digital healthcare platform for the cannabis industry, found that 14 percent of survey participants use pot to increase their libido or enhance their sex life. Not only that, the survey found that women are slightly more likely to say they do this.


 It’s worth pointing out that this was a survey of 1,400 people with medical marijuana cards to find out what they use weed for, and not the general population, but still...

Women’s health expert Jennifer Wider, M.D., isn’t shocked that some people are using pot as a sex-enhancer. “Some people report that it can elevate their mood and reduce inhibitions, similar to alcohol, and can stimulate the desire for sexual activity,” she says.
New York City sex therapist Ian Kerner, Ph.D., says pot can help lower anxiety in many people, which can then help with arousal and orgasm issues. “I work with men, who have had more success with pot than Viagra for maintaining erection,” he says.

However, pot can have the opposite effect on some people. “Marijuana can have different effects on a person's libido,” says Wider. “Some people experience a drop in libido and lack of ability to get aroused.”
Since you’re probably wondering, people also said they used pot to relax (shocker), elevate their mood, help them sleep, and as a substitute for alcohol.

Bottom line: Just like your friend who turns into a dance floor ninja only after tequila, pot can affect people in very different ways. If you’re looking for a libido-booster but have never been into the stuff, now is probably not the time to pick up a pot habit. But if you’re already a marijuana fan and find that it revs you up in the sack, well, it’s good to know you’re not the only one.
