Full List of Golden Globes nominations 2017

Award season is officially underway with “Manchester by the Sea” making major waves.

The heart-wrenching film about love and loss proved to be one of the big winners in Monday’s Golden Globes nominations announcement, earning nods in several categories including best drama film and best screenplay.

Much of the movie’s success stems from the chilling performance by leading man Casey Affleck, 41, who was named a finalist for best actor for portraying Lee Chandler, a short-tempered recluse battling inner demons as he cares for his nephew when his brother dies suddenly. His nomination comes amid the renewed attention on a a pair of 2010 civil lawsuits accusing the star of sexual harassment. Both were settled and ultimately dismissed.
“Manchester” faces the tough task of knocking off another drama, the critically acclaimed coming-of-age movie “Moonlight,” starring Mahershala Ali and Shariff Earp, which is a contender in many of the same categories after landing six nominations overall.

On a much lighter note, “La La Land” leads the musical/comedy categories. The romantic musical about an aspiring actress and passionate jazz musician pursuing their dreams in showbiz, leads all entries with seven nominations and is the early frontrunner for best film.
Stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, meanwhile, are considered frontrunners for best actor and best actress honors.
The television races are a bit more convoluted, but Sci-Fi newcomers “Westworld” and “Stranger Things” seem poised to make some noise after each receiving best drama series nominations over other heavy hitters such as “Narcos” and “House of Cards,” which were not nominated.

Among the most surprising snubs was multi-time Globes winner Tom Hanks, who did not receive a nomination for his dazzling performance as Captain Chesley Sullenberger in “Sully.”

The Golden Globes, which are being hosted by Jimmy Fallon, air on Jan. 8 from Beverly Hills, Calif.
