If there was a year to poke fun at politics, 2016 was certainly it.
Even our President-elect, Donald Trump, is tuning in to the political
jabs on late-night television, commenting that the long applauded sketch
comedy series "Saturday Night Live" is "not funny" and "unwatchable" —
mainly because it incessantly mocks him.
The NBC series produced countless politically charged parodies on the
road to the election, so it's hard to pinpoint the best, but here are
just three of the most talked about:
"SNL"
The stars of the parodied presidential race this year were Alec Baldwin as Trump and Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton on “Saturday Night Live."
One standout parody on “SNL” was “Voters for Trump,” a sketch that
ultimately revealed Trump’s supporters were actually "Racists for
Trump."
A second sketch, focusing more on Clinton, showed her as she
transformed into primary opponent Bernie Sanders in order to secure the
millennial vote.
"Full Frontal with Samantha Bee"
The only female in late night, Samantha Bee, has skewered Donald Trump for just about everything he's done.
One of her most memorable rants focused on the billionaire-turned-politician's bombshell hot-mic video alongside Billy Bush on "Access Hollywood," which she coined as a literal — and vulgar — "vagina monologue."
"Late Night With Seth Meyers"
"SNL" alum Seth Meyers completely boosted the ratings of his new show
"Late Night With Seth Meyers" thanks to a new segment "A Closer Look."
One home-run segment on the tri-weekly portion of his show was an examination of the speech made by the cast of "Hamilton" to Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
"The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon"
On a lighter note — an almost too light of a note — there was the memorable moment Donald Trump appeared on "The Tonight Show" and host Jimmy Fallon's most controversial action was tousling the future President's famous locks.
"Last Week Tonight with John Oliver"
If you've heard the nickname "Drumpf" for the President-elect, thank John Oliver.
The "Last Week Tonight" host hilariously discovered that the Trump family's original surname is actually "Drumpf," a bit he encouraged supporters to mull over.
"If you are thinking of voting for Donald Trump ... Stop and take a
moment to imagine how you would feel if you just met a man named Donald
Drumpf — a litigious serial liar, with a string of broken business
ventures and the support of a local Klan leader."
"Between Two Ferns"
Hillary showed up for the offbeat comedy series "Between Two Ferns" with Zach Galifianakis and showed America that she could be funny… sort of.
The Democratic Presidential Nominee joined Galifianakis as he nailed
his deadpan comedy and she even poked fun at her running mate Donald
Trump.
"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"
Stephen Colbert reacted to the results of the election in a funny — yet poignant — monologue.
The late-night funnyman was clearly distraught over a Trump presidency, but urged his viewers to not move to Canada just yet.
