MTN Nigeria has once
again cemented its position as Nigeria’s largest and leading
telecommunication giant by topping the list of the Top 50 Brands Nigeria
2016 to emerge number one most valuable brand in Nigeria. MTN topped
the list with an aggregate of 86.1 on the BSM index (Brand Strength
Measurement Model) and was followed by Coca-Cola Nigeria with 80.7.
The presentation of the recognition
award which took place at the MTN Headquarters, is organised by the Top
50 Brands Nigeria who every year present a report on a yearlong research
to determine brands that have exemplified themselves, lived up to their
promises and earned considerable value.
“This is another first for the MTN Group
and MTN Nigeria. It shows we are not only concerned with providing
services but adequately keying into the expectations of our consumers
who are very essential to our business. As a brand, it has given us
additional impetus and determination to continue to deploy best practice
and people solutions for the benefit of the organisation and all our
stakeholders” said Ferdi Moolman, Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria.
According to Taiwo Oluboyede,
CEO, Top 50 Brands Nigeria, we started the yearlong research with the
TOP ON THE MIND survey where members of the public where engaged to list
out brands they are familiar with, this enabled us to test people’s
feelings, feedbacks, knowledge of brands and affinity. Respondents
listed brands that they can easily recall or they are familiar with and
it was observed that people easily recall brands they recently engage
with or they see often.
“The Brand Strength Measurement model
used put into consideration factors such as consumer’s familiarity with
brands, quality elements a brand possess, market/category leadership,
innovation, spread, CSR amongst others. The summations of the variables
are keyed into the BSM table and the fifty on the upper side are the 50
top brands for the year 2016 and MTN Nigeria gallantly topped the list,”
said Oluboyede.
Other brands on the top 50 list includes
Coca-Cola, GTBank, Dufil Prima (Indomie), Nestle, First Bank of
Nigeria, Dangote Group, Globacom, Nigerian Breweries, Guinness amongst
others.
