Gov. Cuomo will reportedly announce a plan to require health insurers
to cover medically necessary abortions and most forms of contraception
at no cost.
Cuomo will reveal his new state insurance regulations on Saturday, according to The New York Times.
Under the new rules, abortions deemed medically necessary by a doctor
will no longer be subject to co-payments or annual deductibles.
Insurers also will be required to cover a three-month supply of
contraception the first time a woman obtains it, and then a supply for
up to 12 months, at no cost, according to the report.
The directive comes as Republicans in Congress are taking steps to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Insurers are required to cover most forms of contraception for free under the act.

Earlier this month, the state Assembly passed a measure that would
ensure the continuation and expansion of contraception coverage for New
Yorkers.
“I welcome the governor’s proposed regulations today to protect access
to the health care New York women rely on — and I won’t stop fighting
for reproductive justice in the months and years ahead,” Attorney
General Eric Schneiderman, who proposed the legislation, said Saturday.
