Mariah Carey reportedly fires longtime creative director after disastrous New Year’s Eve performance

Mariah Carey is saying bye bye to her longtime creative director.

The powerhouse singer reportedly booted her creative director and tour choreographer/dancer, Anthony Burrell, following her disastrous performance during "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve," Entertainment Tonight reports.

"He's not being brought back [IN 2017]for a number of reasons," a source close to Carey told ET.
Burrell, who has worked with Carey for a number of years, reportedly placed the "Bye Bye" singer's backup vocalists at the bottom of the risers instead of on stage with her during the NYE performance and did so without the approval of her management team, according to ET.

The choreographer denied comment to ET, but did respond to a direct message from the site on Instagram simply with the thumbs up emoji.
The lack of backup singers proved troubling for Carey as her ear piece didn't work and she couldn't' receive cues. A source told ET that moving the singers "left Mariah without any support."
Burrell took to Twitter after Mariah received a ton of hate over her performance.

"I haven't been able to watch NYE performance. 30 sec from live TV, boss couldn't hear her own vocal in her in-ears from Mic. #heartbroken," he wrote on Monday.
"Sucks to see all of the hateful messages," he continued. "Peep[S] are so quick to judge, not knowing we were all in a state of panic."
Burrell is prominently featured on the star's reality series "Mariah's World" and recently shared an image of himself and Carey's new beau Bryan Tanaka holding her up ahead of the New Year's performance.
The 46-year-old musician said she was "mortified" over what happened during her live performance.
"All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," Carey told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time."

Immediately after the incident, all Carey had to say was that: "s--t happens."
