Mischa Barton claims she was slipped a date rape drug before checking herself in to a hospital.
The former "O.C." star alleges she was drugged while out drinking for
her 31st birthday and that's why she was voluntarily hospitalized on
Thursday — the morning after, People reported.
"On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to
celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realized that something
was not right as my behavior was becoming erratic and continued to
intensify over the next several hours," Barton said in a statement to the mag.
"I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB," she continued.
GHB is commonly referred to as a "date rape drug" and is often consumed in an alcoholic beverage.
Barton was reportedly taken to the hospital on Thursday morning after
police were called about a disturbance at her residence. She then
voluntarily agreed to be transported to the hospital, Sergeant Duncan of
West Hollywood Sheriff's Department told the Daily News.
The actress was ranting about various bizarre things while hanging over
her backyard fence, including her mom being a witch, the world
shattering and Ziggy Stardust, according to TMZ.
While she was hospitalized for a mental evaluation, she claims it was a result of the GHB drugging.
Barton urged other young women to use the incident as a warning.
"This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings," her statement read.
The actress is now doing well and resting at home.
