Hollywood Keanu Reeves addresses willingness to return to ‘The Matrix’ franchise, working with the Wachowskis

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, “John Wick: Chapter 2” star Keanu Reeves, long known for his role in “The Matrix” trilogy, discussed the possibility of returning to Thomas A. Anderson/Neo, aka The One.

However, there are a few conditions.
Reeves, 52, told Yahoo! that in order to return, “The Wachowskis would have to be involved.”

He added: “They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?”
“People die, stories don’t,” he continued. “People in stories don’t.”
In the final film, 2003’s “The Matrix Revolutions,” Neo sacrifices himself to temporarily end the war fought between humans and machines — with the Matrix rebooted.
However, the final scene of the film is rather ambiguous. Sati (Tanveer K. Atwal) discusses a possible Neo resurrection with The Oracle.

The latter responds that she “suspects” to see Neo again, “someday.”
Perhaps that day is drawing ever nearer, though? This is true now more than ever, as Hollywood continues its trend of sequels, reboots and live-action adaptations of Disney classics.

The Twitter account for “John Wick: Chapter 2” recently posted a photo of the famed trio from “The Matrix” (Neo, Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, and Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne) at the “Chapter 2” premiere. It was, just maybe, a tease of what’s to come — however far down the line.
It’s likely the Wachowskis (Lana and Lilly) may respond to the sequel rumors, especially as the subject’s been broached by Reeves himself.
As for the 52-year-old actor, he’s been enjoying some renewed success, thanks to the action-packed, shoot-’em-up “John Wick” movies. In them, Reeves plays the disgruntled ex-hitman, Jonathan “John” Wick, who's pulled from retirement — and then actively seeks out a new one.
Reeves has repositioned himself in Hollywood as an A-lister again, and one who can, arguably, become more selective in his projects.
And if he’s itching to get back to Neo, perhaps Hollywood will heed his words.
