Lindsay Lohan wants to put her red hair to good use.
The former child star offered herself to Disney to star as Ariel in
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.”
"I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid," Lohan wrote on
Instagram Saturday with a side-by-side photo of her and the underwater
princess. "@disney approve
that "#billcondon directs it along with my
sister @alianamusic singing the theme song for the soundtrack."
"Also @kgrahamsfb plays Ursula," she said about her personal trainer.
"Simply because, she is the best. Take one. @disneystudios."
By Sunday, she’d updated the caption to just read “#thelittlemermaid.”
Miranda will team up with Alan Menken, who composed the music for the
original 1989 animated movie. Marc Platt, who is working with Miranda on
“Mary Poppins Returns,” will produce the reboot.
Chloe Grace Moretz was attached to play the lead role but dropped out in September.
Moretz, however, is 20 years old, a more familiar age for the redheaded princess who leaves her home to find love.
Lohan, on the other hand, turned 30 in July.
The “Mean Girls star does have some experience as a Disney princess,
though — while hosting “Saturday Night Live” in 2012, Lohan played
Rapunzel in a “Real Housewives of Disney” sketch.
Lohan, who has kept out of the spotlight since breaking up with Russian
business heir fiancé Egor Taravasov last summer, has spent much of her
time volunteering with Syrian refugees in Turkey.
“Little Mermaid” joins a slew of recent live-action remakes, including “Sleeping Beauty,” “Cinderella” and “The Jungle Book.”
Upcoming reboots include “Beauty and the Beast,” Mulan,” “One Hundred and One Dalmations” and “Dumbo.”
