Arsenal Football Club may have lost their match
against Chelsea on Saturday, but there was cheery news for the club’s
legion of fans in Nigeria as well as other football lovers all over the
country as MTN Nigeria formally announced their partnership with Arsenal FC.
The
event saw dignitaries and Nigerians from all works of life converging
at the IMAX Studio in Lekki for what has been described as one of the
biggest developments in Nigerian football in recent times.
The formal announcement took place before a high powered delegation from Arsenal led by Gordon Tannock, its Head, Partner Services while MTN had present, Muhammad Ziaullah Siddiqui, Chief Operating Officer, Richard Iweanoge, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, Rahul De, Chief Marketing Officer and Oyeronke Oyetunde, Ag. Corporate Service Executive.
Also present for the event where former Nigerian Internationals, Kanu Nwankwo and Celestine Babayaro
former players of Arsenal and Chelsea respectively who both renewed
their rivalry during their EPL days as they got behind their former
clubs.
Other guests at the high profile event included CEO, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema; MD, Metropolitan Motors, Olutoyin Okeowo; Directors of MTN Nigeria, Tunde Folawiyo and Gbenga Oyebode; Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Pascal Dozie and Lagos socialite, Prince Gabby Yadua, MD of Beat FM, Chris Ubosi; hip-hop act, Vector tha Viper, former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha.
Tannock
who led the Arsenal Club’s delegation stated that the club was excited
about partnership and pledged the club’s support towards development of
local capacity in football.
Kanu described it as an exciting partnership and a good cause for Nigerian football.
“They’re bringing something unique and football lovers have a reason to be excited.”
