With "The Fate of the Furious" still making waves at the box office,
it's never too early to start thinking about a sequel — or a spinoff.
Fresh off the latest "Fast and Furious" installment, which smashed
global box office debut records, Universal Pictures is said to be eyeing
a spinoff that would star Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham's
Decker Shaw and newcomer Charlize Theron's Cipher, Variety reports.
While the actors have yet to commit and no script has been written, the
studio would reportedly leave the story, in which Hobbs and Shaw team
up against Cipher, in the hands of Chris Morgan. Morgan has previously
written six of the franchise's films, including "The Fate of the
Furious" and "Furious 7."
Universal has been mulling a spinoff of the wildly popular franchise
since 2011's "Fast Five," after the addition of Johnson's character
proved popular. The thought was reportedly rekindled with "Furious 7,"
when Statham joined the series.
