Don't cha wish you had a better wingman than Sir Michael Caine? Zach Braff sure does.
The "Scrubs" actor dropped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Wednesday
morning and recalled
the time his "Going in Style" co-worker Caine tried
— and failed — to play Cupid for Braff and former Pussycat Doll Nicole
Scherzinger while out to eat in a London restaurant.
"He's like, 'I'm gonna set you up with a girl!' " Braff, who will turn
42 on Thursday, told DeGeneres. "And he's looking around the restaurant,
and he sees Nicole. I'd never met her before. He was like, 'I know her!
You want me to set you up with her?' I was like, 'Yeah, you can set me
up with her. You're Michael Caine, you've got to be a pretty decent
wingman.' And it turns out he was a horrible wingman."
Braff continued with the painfully awkward details of the story,
explaining how Caine, 84, summoned Scherzinger to the pair's table, only
to fall flat on his matchmaking skills.
"She comes over and he's like, 'I'm watching you two! I see what's
happening!' " Braff recalled. "And I'm like, 'This is really not going
well.' So no, it didn't work out. She's very sweet and very beautiful
but Michael Caine turned out to be a horrible wingman."
Braff is currently promoting his comedy "Going in Style," in which he
directed Caine alongside with Morgan Freeman. And though the
Emmy-nominated actor's career is in full swing, he can't say the same
about his love life.
"Everyone is looking to set me up with people," he told DeGeneres, who
called his recent Instagram post of his dismal bachelor fridge (its sole
content was a bottle of A1 sauce) "the saddest thing."
