The pop star will hold a tribute show in the English city this Sunday
that benefits the victims and the families of those affected in the
horrific attack, Grande announced Tuesday on Twitter.
In addition to Grande, the concert is slated to feature big-name acts
including Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan, Coldplay,
Pharrell and Take That according to TMZ.
The show will take place at the Old Trafford cricket venue.
Last week, Grande vowed to return to Manchester for a benefit show days
after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device outside the
Manchester Arena shortly after her show had ended. The explosion killed
at least 22 people and left dozens more injured.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins recently said
Grande wanted to put on the tribute show "sooner rather than later."
"When the idea of the concert came up, the first reaction was we need
to speak to the families of the victims and see what they feel," he told
BBC Radio Manchester, according to the Manchester Evening News. "It is
fair to say that the majority of them are very much in favor, there are
some that clearly aren't and that is absolutely understandable."
As many as 10 performers could be involved with the show, TMZ reported.
The concert will be held in Manchester on the same day as a testimonial
match honoring Manchester United player Michael Carrick, which will
take place at a nearby arena that day.
Hopkins said that he'd been working with Carrick's team to figure out a
way to make sure both events — which could each draw 50,000 or more
attendees — would be able to happen.
Grande, 23, first announced her plans to return to Manchester in a message shared to Twitter last Friday.
"I don't want to go the rest of the year without being able to see and uplift my fans," she wrote.
Police suspect 22-year-old Salman Abedi was the suicide bomber in the
attack, and ISIS has claimed responsibility for the act of terror.
