With the exorbitant costs of international travel, most people must rethink overseas holiday plans this year. Fortunately, there are great destinations at home or close by.
Here are some money travel tips.
1. Look critically at your finances and budget for the various aspects of holiday spending; #fares, #food, accommodation, #shopping, #entertainment, gifts, excursions and so on.
2. Inform your bank or card company of your travel plans so they don't block your card if there are "unusual" payments.
3. Keep your bank’s customer service number handy; you might need it.
4. Separate your money; Don’t keep all of your cash and cards in the same place.
5. Avoid borrowing to finance your holiday unless there is the absolute certainty of an impending inflow of funds or a compelling reason to do so.
6. Hold some cash: If you lose your wallet, your cards are declined, or the ATM is out of cash, you will be glad that you had cash on you.
7. Avoid carrying too much cash, as it may not be covered by your travel insurance if lost or stolen.
8. For a small premium, protect yourself and your family with travel insurance; one of you could fall
ill or have a mishap during your travels, flights may be cancelled or baggage lost.
