Miranda Brawn will be awarded her Doctor of Letters at the esteemed University of Brighton on Friday, 28th
July 2017. She will also deliver the Commencement Speech during the
graduation ceremony to the Class of 2017.
This is the highest academic
award which is often referred to as the OBE and/or DBE in the education
and academic world. She is being recognised for her contribution to
business, finance, law, diversity and philanthropy not only in the UK
but across the globe. With her impressive list of credentials,
dedication, hard work and commitment to diversity and equality has
earned her respect and admiration throughout the country and on a global
basis.
Miranda Brawn is a multi-award winning businesswoman, banker,
barrister, diversity leader and founder and CEO of the Miranda Brawn
Diversity Leadership Foundation which campaigns for an equal and diverse
workforce helping to promote all forms of diversity including race,
gender, LGBT and disability etc. She said: “True diversity and equality is one of the greatest challenges in the 21st
century workforce. We must continue to try to find ways that the next
generation can go on to succeed fulfilling their true potential.”
Born and raised in London, close to former England captain David
Beckham, Brawn has had a successful career across finance, business and
law. Brawn was the brains behind the inspiring UK history making
diversity leadership lecture aimed at young BAME future leaders which
has won a ‘Points of Light’ Award from Prime Minister Theresa May and
personal praise from HRH Prince Charles of Wales.
Brawn has been described as “a global force for diversity and equality”,
praised for her philanthropic spirit and her commitment to diversity
and equality across all sectors including finance and law. She has used
her influence and reach as a force for good in the world, with a
constant focus on the importance of diverse opportunities and the
virtues of serving others. It is not an overstatement to describe
Miranda, and her organisation that she has founded and led so
successfully, as a beacon of hope for the next generation. In her
diversity efforts, she is a passionate crusader for people’s rights to
diversity and equality, plus a global force for good.
The University of Brighton said: “When the University of Brighton
considers awarding Honorary Degrees, it seeks individuals who have not
only pushed at the boundaries of their field for the benefit of society
more widely, but who also reflect the values that are important to us at
Brighton: creativity, sustainability, partnership and inclusivity.
Through her work and as a role model Miranda Brawn epitomises all of
these and we are delighted that she has agreed to accept the award.”
Miranda Brawn said: “I am truly humbled and honoured to be

doctorate for my positive contribution to society over the years. My

Brawn joins an esteemed line up of previous honorary doctorate awardees, including Judge Michael Kennedy QC, creator of the Idol franchise
and the Spice Girls Simon Fuller and Sarah Brown (global health and
education campaigner and wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown).
