According to reports that Apple has scheduled its annual product
announcement for Sept. 12. There, the company is expected to unveil
three iPhones, including two iPhone 7 models and a brand new “showcase”
iPhone to mark the 10-year-anniversary of the innovative product,
according to the Wall Street Journal.
The event is already being called “the most important keynote in a few years ” by tech sites like Recode.
Here are some reasons why, according to the latest rumors.
1. The iPhone 8 won't have a physical home button
The iPhone 8 will feature a button-less, full touch screen, according
to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s list of 10 predictions for Apple on
streetinsider.com. A virtual home button will replace the circular
clicker. And there will be no more fingerprint sensor. This is because
the iPhone’s OLED design “doesn’t work with existing capacitive
fingerprint recognition” due to “complex technical issues,” that will
come with such an advanced screen display.
Welcome to the future. The iPhone 8’s front camera is rumored to have
facial recognition software “that allows users to log in, authenticate
payments, and launch secure apps by scanning their face,” according to
Apple insider Mark Gurman’s report for Bloomberg Technology. Gurman also
believes the software will be powered by a new dedicated 3D sensor. In
addition to unlocking the device itself, the advanced software will
allow users to take 3D selfies. It doesn’t get more real than that.
3. The new iPhone will have an edge-to-edge OLED screen
The entire face of the phone will be an organic light-emitting diode
(OLED) screen. No more borders that take up space. This means that the
screen will use less power and have a higher contrast display. Also, the
OLED iPhone will have “the highest screen-to-body ratio of any
smartphone currently available worldwide,” according to Kuo.
Apple wants to cut the cords altogether. Unlike its predecessors, the
iPhone 8 will have wireless charging capabilities built in to the
smartphone itself. But the feature requires an optional accessory that
must be purchased separately, according to Kuo.
5. The new iPhone will cost between $1,000 and $1,400
The iPhone 8’s new technologies come with a hefty price tag. The entry
level iPhone 8 is expected to retail at $1,000. That’s 50% more than the
lowest memory version of the iPhone 7.
