Carolina State Basketball player 'stable' after heart stops beating during game

A South Carolina State basketball player collapsed after his heart stopped beating during the first half of Saturday's game against North Carolina State.

Tyvoris Solomon, who was not in the game at the time, received CPR afer he collapsed near the bench during a first-half timeout.

He was resuscitated by South Carolina State's athletic trainer, ESPN reported.

Solomon was "stable and conscious" as he was stretchered out of PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C., a team spokesperson said.

As people around the Bulldogs' bench cried out for help, staff members were seen fanning Solomon with a jacket.

The South Carolina State players and coaches voted to continue the game once they knew Solomon was conscious. Both teams had left the court following the scary scene.

“They said they would do what Ty would do, and Ty would tell us to go out there and play,” Pitt said. “That was the response the guys gave us. We let them decide.”

North Carolina State was leading 22-5 with 13:08 to play in the opening half at the time of Solomon's medical emergency.

Solomon, from Johns Island, South Carolina, is a redshirt senior for the Bulldogs.
