Ekiti to Set up Its Own Anti-graft Agency

A bill for the establishment of Ekiti State Economic Crimes Commission (EECC) by the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has passed second reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti.

Presenting the bill to other members of the Assembly, the Leader of Business, Olatunji Akinyele said the bill sought to curb corruption, embezzlement, fraud, abandoned projects, among others in the State.

In a statement by the governor's media aide, Lere Olayinka, members of the Assembly including the Chairman House Committee on Information, Samuel Omotoso; Jeje Samuel; Akinleye Ekundayo; and Titilayo Owolabi-Akerele canvassed for a speedy passage of the bill. They said the bill would halt diversion of funds and eradicate all forms of economic crimes in Ekiti State when it becomes operational.

Assembly Speaker, Kola Oluwawole, described the bill as timely, saying it would lay a solid foundation and improve good governance in the State.

He charged the joint committees and the Assembly members to work towards achieving a speedy passage of the bill. Recalled, the Fayose government recently got a court ruling that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has no power to investigate the state's finances.
