As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. With your technical expertise you manage individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables. You design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.


Google Hardware, Google Home, Device Platform team is working on revolutionizing how people interact with their TVs, speakers, home entertainment and assistant devices. We are the team that built Google Home Mini, Google Home, Google Home Max, Google Wifi, Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast, and Chromecast Audio. 

Our main software stack includes Chromium-based browser implementation with additions to support Cast protocol, Google assistant, hardware accelerated AV pipelines of the SoC, Assistant client code running on the device that handles voice/speech locally and interacts with the assistant servers.
We are looking to extend media processing capabilities, support new assistant and voice features, optimize graphics performance, and improve the system reliability and performance for our next-generation products planned for the coming years and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Chromium-based browser
  • Extend media processing capabilities
  • Support new assistant and voice features
  • Optimize graphics performance
  • Improve the system reliability and performance for our next-generation products

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical
  • Experience in code optimization, high performance computing and multi-threading programming with multi-core CPU.
  • Real time graphics rendering experience with video and media processing pipelines and Audio/speech signal processing.
  • Browser technologies and Web (HTML5/JavaScript) applications experience. Experience programming in C/C++ and experience in Unix/Linux environments.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with DRM solutions (Widevine, Playready, etc.), Conditional Access Systems, Trusted Execution Environments, Security or Media Frameworks.
  • Track record of successful development and application of machine learning, computer vision, and/or artificial intelligence.
