Dr. Marilyn Glenville, author of The Natural Health Bible for Women, to
break down what on earth dry body brushing *actually* is and how you can
incorporate the practise into your wellness regime.
Why should we be dry body brushing?
"If you have poor blood flow to your connective tissues, they will swell
and stretch apart, allowing fat to bulge through, giving you
cellulite," explains Marilyn. Dry body brushing – also called skin brushing – helps to break up these
fatty deposits. It also aids lymphatic drainage and stimulates
circulation.
Where can we buy a dry body brush?
Skin brushes are available from most good pharmacies and are best used first thing in the morning, before you shower.
What's the perfect dry body brushing method?
Start at the soles of your feet and work your way up
your legs, brushing your legs in small circular movements as vigorously
as you can for two to three minutes every morning. "Remember to always
brush toward your heart," adds Dr. Glenville.
Dr. Glenville has broken it down further with a specific step-by-step method you can follow at home...
1. Use firm, rhythmic strokes to brush the sole of your right foot. Then brush over the top of your foot toward your ankle.
2.
Move to your lower leg, cover the whole surface. Brush from your knees
to the top of your thigh. Brush your buttock area up to your waist.
Repeat on your left leg.
3. Brush at the top of your buttocks and move upward. Brush the whole of your back up to your shoulders.
4. Brush your right arm, paying particular attention to the area around your armpit. Repeat on your left arm.
5. Finish by brushing gently over your throat and neck.
Sounds super simple right? Pass us a brush...
