2018 Okpekpe Road Race: East Africans Dominate Medal Table

East Africans have dominated the medal table of 2018 Okpekpe Road Race which took place on Saturday at Okpekpe Mountain in Edo State. 

 For the male elite category, Kibet Alex (Kenyan) came first with a time of 29.46 minutes, while another Kenyan, Simon Cheprot came second with 30.29. The third position also went to another Kenyan, Ronoh Timothy, at 30.39.

In the female category, Ethiopian Yami Dera, won the star price with a time of 33.01. Kenyan Tuei Sandra came second with 33.33, while another Kenyan, Kipyokei Diara, ran a time of 34.24 to clinch the third position.

In the local male category, Emmanuel Gyang came first, while Gideon Goyet came second position and Ismail Sodie came third. In the female category, Debora Pam won the star price, Rose Aknstro came second and Hudung Giang came third.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, assured of the state government’s interest in "sustaining the road race is part of the commitment to drive sports development and boost tourism."

 
    
 The governor, who was among the VIP runners, was joined by his wife, Betsy, former governor, Adams Oshiomhole and Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung. Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, competed as an elite runner.
